The purpose of this conference is to address different aspects of female empowerment in academia, the workforce, and in our society. This conference will provide a safe space for females (especially latinx) to discuss about their experiences of being a minority in their field of study and the support/motivation to continue pursuing their goals, regardless of the adversity they may face. Anyone is welcomed to attend the conference; however, the target audience is SHPE region 1 females which encompasses Central/Northern California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska.

Workshop 1: Combating Imposter Syndrome
Abstract: Feeling like a fraud or that you don’t belong where you are? How can this be
prevented? Learn why this happens to us all and how one can overcome this feeling. How does
this have an affect on us as Latinas in STEM?

Workshop 2: Personal Board of Directors: Knowing How to Network
Abstract: Most companies have a board of directors to help manage certain situations or
successes. It’s important to create your own personal board of directors that can include friends,
family, community, mentors, and professionals who can all help guide you. Who do you trust?
Who has a well rounded perspective of you? How do you manage your network? What
challenges do you experience in forming or maintaining networks?

Workshop 3: Diversity and Inclusion from Multiple Perspectives
Abstract: How diversity and inclusion has shaped us within academia and workplace. It’s
important to include everyone in this discussion so that everyone is aware of what women in
STEM have to experience. Males share their experience of working with females and how
working together leads to success.

Workshop 4: Branding Yourself like a Boss: Leveraging your Strengths
Abstract: Learn how to define who you are, how you are great, and why you should be sought
out. Talents are not equivalent to strengths but can become strengths with practice. Lean how to
discover your strengths, getting out of your comfort zone, and use that in your workplace.

Workshop 5: Goal Setting for your Job Search & Salary Negotiation
Abstract: Need help with creating clear, focused, and realistic goals? Learn the purpose of goal
setting, how to create a smart goal and utilizing tools that will help you to organize your search.
Provide students with the necessary skills to negotiate, research the market, and position
themselves in the current job market.
